Hebgen Lake
Summer life in Montana is a big deal for locals. Living with 7 months in a long cold winter can freeze you to the bones. Luckily, the summer months are filled with tons of water including the incredible Hebgen Lake. Discover top fishing spots with rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout all in the tranquility of Montana’s most spectacular lake. Keep on the lookout for wildlife such as moose, golden eagles, and bears (yes, we mean grizzlies). The marina offers a variety of rental equipment including paddleboards and pontoon boats.
Quake Lake
Adventure
“Quake Lake” is 32 minutes away from West Yellowstone and, despite the extraordinary earthquake that caused its creation, is one of the most peaceful destinations in the area. On August 17, 1959 the area was hit by one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the Rocky Mountains, measuring a 7.5 on the Richter scale. A gigantic land slide was triggered and caused more than 80 millions tons of rock to crash into a narrow canyon , blocking the Madison River and creating Earthquake Lake. The drive is well know for sheep sightings so keep your eyes peeled for wildlife on your way up!
Whitewater
Rafting
Head up to Big Sky, only an hour and ten minutes away from West Yellowstone. A premier river rafting destination, you can find trips with multiple levels based on your appetite for adventure! Montana Whitewater Rafting and Zipline Tours offers everything from technical class IV rapids, to splashy class II and III rapids, to scenic and relaxing class I rapids. Enjoy a full day of fun for the entire family.
